I decided to check out this book when I saw the "...boyish dimples so deep you could pour tea into them." A phrase like that is more than cute; it tell me that the writer is in love with what she's doing. I'll admit my expectations for first person YA novels are not usually high, but I wasn't disappointed. The protagonist doesn't appeal himself to the millennial sensibility, but he loves people that you'll love, and he grows over the course of the story. The setting was believable, although some of the myths in the plot line became a little too concrete for my liking towards the end. It's not completely unconvincing, but you will have to buy into a thing or two to appreciate the climax. The character's choices and personalities are very convincing and relevant, and since I tend to judge a book by its characters, I have to say I really liked this one! I look forward to reading more by this author.
