Like so many people here and on IMDB, I was surprised and disappointed by this film. It is not what the publicity lead us to believe it would be. I'm not into action films or blockbusters, but this was supposed to cost $150m and I, like many others, can't see where they spent it. Not on extras or CGI that's for sure. The beach looks to have only about one thousand men. There were 400,000 men waiting for evacuation. There looks to be only one guy playing a wounded man on a stretcher. Literally ONE guy. The buildings look newer than 1940 and the train the men get into after making it back home, is from the 1980s. There is very little dialogue. As someone who loathes Terrence Malick's films without scripts, if I had known this, I would never have bothered with this "film." There is also no backstory. I'll be going to the BBC documentary on Dunkirk to get that info. There are no characters to care about. Oh and Tom Hardy does a Steve McQueen in The Great Escape type thing at the end. I guess when you're a star, they have to let you play the hero. Don't bother with this film, unless you want to be frustrated, bored and irritated. (Some reviews below and on IMDB are much more eloquent than me in stating how much of a failure this film is. Read them if you are inclined.)
