I saw the Antoine Fuqua remake again over the Memorial Day weekend and I actually liked it better the second time around. For all those who compare it unfavorably with the Sturges and Kurosawa originals there is one way in which the remake is superior. Fuqua thankfully excises the young-lovers-clutching-in-romantic-embrace narrative that lards both of the originals. SEVEN SAMURAI clocks in at well over three hours; and while the original MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is five-minutes shorter than the remake it seems much longer because of all the scenes with Chico and Petra.
