This is a bahn burner, and to mix metaphors, a roller coaster of a read. The action quickly moves from Colorado to the waters and landmarks near Acadia National Park. There are multiple parallel plots, all pretty suspenseful. Some of these develop and end predictably, but that's OK. There is some fabulous character development-- in particular, Denise. Can't say too much more without spoiling the reading experience. Nevada Barr loves the characters who people her world, and (unlike the real world) they almost all have senses of humor. One of my favorite lines, spoken by a third-generation lobsterman: "I thought you were a wicked lobstah trap..."
