Another interesting premise and story. I consider this one of Margaret Haddix's better novels but I did think that the situation of a teenage orphan girl, living on her own without being discovered by child protective services a bit unrealistic. The way Haddix presented it, i.e. the circumstances and the time frame it was held in were plausible and of course she was eventually discovered but by allies who helped her rather than by state agencies who would have taken her away (to her ruin, given her special power). Worth reading and I hope Haddix has a sequel planned for some point in the future.
