Add a CommentI absolutely love this cookbook! It's filled with authentic recipes, as well as immigrant stories. For a year, a large Somali family lived in the apartment across from mine. One day, from my patio door, I witnessed a group harassing them. I may be a disabled elderly woman, but I do have a firm, loud voice, so I hobbled outside and chased the harassers away. A week later there was a knock on my door and a platter of the most scrumptious food was held in loving Somali hands. After that, I received plates of food at least 3-4 times a week, and hot Somali tea at least once a day. We worked our way through the language barrier and became very good friends, and even though they've moved to Seattle, we still talk frequently. The stories in this book brought back such good memories of that magical year I shared with them. I'm planning to buy my own copy as soon as I've saved enough, on my fixed income.
