Add a CommentThis is a seriously overrated movie- I found it plodding and dull- and with its over reliance on motifs from the vastly superior films " Taxi Driver " and " The King of Comedy " it was also derivative and unoriginal. The fact that Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his hammy and superficial performance is even more unbelievable.

Superb...psychological look at how the Joker came to be...a dark movie to be sure....thoroughly enjoyed it
The worst movie of 2019. When I heard that they are coming with a slightly different Joker. The only one that I am familiar with, is the Christopher Nolan Joker , which I loved by the way.This movie was not only offensive to all superheros movies , but extremely shallow to be taken seriously as a drama . I can picture the director petting himself in the back, because he is so edgy for picking up themes that are popular with the young people. Lets not worry about Joker character and how complex he is supposed to be, instead we make a social commentary and put or character in ridiculous situations just to prove out point.
If you like Phoenix then you'll like the movie. He is mesmerizing, draws you into his character and takes you on an emotional ride. His body language is wow! I liked the movie and enjoyed the twist/reveal at the end ...... wish they had extended it a bit more.
Difficult to rate--totally unrealistic but good acting---you can live without seeing it.
Wow! An incredibly dark movie that proved very difficult to rate. Phoenix was amazing in his role. A movie not for the faint of heart.
Kudos to lead actor for his performance. Movie was too dark, too depressing. For me this is not what a movie should be unless it is a documentary.
Didn't read any reviews before watching but understood it had good reviews. Thought I would have an enjoyable viewing but not sure I would have wanted to watch this if I knew what to expect. Maybe the most depressing movie I've ever seen.
I'm giving this movie 1.5 stars.
This movie is not for the faint of heart. A VERY dark movie. There are some very violent moments where it was difficult to watch.
Joaquin Pheonix did an amazing job on this origin story for Joker.
For those who have seen American Horror story, Frances Conroy plays Penny Fleck.
