Most of the recordings I've heard from Ms Ronstadt have been while listening to radio in my car so what I heard was tinny and uninteresting disposable pop music babble. However, this first live album release for Ms Ronstadt erases those deficits. The play list, which read like a "best hits" collection, is at least an order of magnitude better than what I've heard before. The recording is derived from footage of a 1980 HBO special that was recently found and transferred to a digital format. Sound wise, it's a well produced album that might tempt you to turn up the volume another notch.

Ms Ronstadt was in fine form on the day of the recording and backed up by some of the best session artists of the day and Bill Payne from Little Feat was sitting in on keyboards. The arrangements were imaginative and the band was tight. Standout cuts are "Blue Bayou", a Roy Orbison standard, and one of her standby tunes, "You're No Good".

The only disappointment of the album is that more selections weren't included from the eighty minute performance. Definitely recommended.

Fabulous “You’re No Good”. Wish records still had the musicians have fun in the middle.
Other wonders, “Poor poor pitiful me”, “Faithless love” and “Back in the USA”
ROCKS!

sorry, gary, i carelessly flagged your comment while trying to click the permalink button. last i heard, she lived in the laurel heights neighborhood, not far from where UCMC has a plutonium disposal plant. There is a little smokestack which distributes the remains of the stuff, all over the sweet little neighborhood which is bounded on one side ( the east) by Masonic Avenue. I wonder if that is why she began having her health problems, as i last heard. Also, she no longer sang. Such a pretty voice, i'm sure you will agree, Gary. Hear how her voice cracks at a certain crucial point during her rendition of Roy Orbison's BLUE BAYOU. I heard her cover of Buddy Holly's THAT'LL BE THE DAY before i heard the original Buddy/Crickets. Being a teenager at the time, i was turned on by the cover of one of her LPs which features Linda on the beach, barefoot, wearing a white top, braless. She never went beyond that in exploiting her body, though. I hope she's ok. My guess, if she has moved from that dangerous Frisco part of town, is that she lives in Newport (from your multiple-choice question).
