I found this book to be a huge disappointment. Basically there's nothing new in this book that I have not heard before but what I did hear over and over was all about the author.... Himself, himself, himself and me, me ,me.
His writing is on such an infantile scale that I could not get through it. The opening of the book is about the movie The Matrix as an example of an altered reality... And it goes downhill from there on.

A book about the science and philosophy of meditation is not going to be easy reading so I braced myself for a tough read. However, Robert Wright's "Why Buddhism is True," is a fairly understandable account of the art and science of meditation. What makes the book understandable is that Wright is down-to-earth. He associates with us the readers and laughs at himself. He does no took down on us and has an attitude of "If I can do this you can." Thus, the difficult subject becomes easy. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to getting down on the cushion. I may not find enlightenment but I expect to become happier and a better human being.

With 39 holds on 16 copies (across 3 formats), this book clearly speaks to a lot of people here in Central Oregon! I just listened to a great conversation with the author by Tricycle magazine, and was so inspired and educated by it I came straight here to check the book out. Looking forward to his full exploration of scientific spirituality and evolutionary psychology's contributions to mindfulness practice.

That great interview:
