THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS by Kenneth Grahame, Is about four pals - Toad, Badger, Mole and Water Rat - and the mischief they get themselves in and out of. It's a tale about holding on to the things - be it objects or experiences or people (in this case animal pals) - that inspire, comfort and sustain you, and giving credit where credit is due.

This justifiably famous book is one of my all-time favorites. Don't be mislead & thereby miss reading it because it's a children's book. If it is such, by a great stretch of the imagination, then this "child" is an extremely sophisticated reader. It's a charming, timeless, ageless story full of lovable characters and wonderfully quirky 'Britishisms'. I bought a used, beat-up copy so I wouldn't feel guilty for taking index tabs & a yellow highlighter to it to mark all of my favorite passages so I can quickly find them to reread over and over!

A classic book that everyone should read (or re-read!). I love the silly characters, the deep connection to nature, but I really wanted a different ending for Toad!

The gang's all here and living their beloved adventures in this classic tale. It's about four pals - Toad, Badger, Mole and Water Rat - and the mischief they get themselves in and out of, but ultimately it's about the bonds of friendship.

Timeless. This is just such a wonderful book. If you liked this and need something a little denser and more mature, try your hand at 'Watership Down'.

I brought this camping with me and read parts of it next to a river and it was SUPERB.
Vibrant, ambling and elegant prose throughout, the emotional and descriptive mole and rat chapters are contrasted with the hilarious Toad "plot" chapters. A classic in EVERY sense.

Begun as a series of letters from Kenneth Grahame to his son, The Wind in the Willows is a timeless tale of animal cunning and human camaraderie. Since its first publication in 1908, generations of adults and children have cherished this world of gurgling rivers and whispering reeds, serving as home to the most lovable creatures in all literature―Rat, Mole, Badger, and the irrepressible Toad of Toad Hall; with his goggles, overcoat and love of fast cars. Follow these little adventurers through gypsy caravans, stolen sports cars, and their Wild Wood.

I just absolutely loved this book! I read it to my 3rd & 4th grade Literature class and they were entranced from the start. I laughed as much as they did and I think I enjoyed it even more than the children. I ended up buying a copy - I liked it that much - but I have to say that this particular publication has the best illustrations of all - they are enticing and funny!

First published in 1908, "The Wind in the Willows" has been capturing the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike for over a century. A story about loyalty and friendship, Grahame's book follows the story of bashful Mole, wise Rat, boastful Toad and practical Badger, who live in the beautiful and pristine English countryside.

Home! That was what they meant, those caressing appeals, those soft touches wafted through the air, those invisible little hands pulling and tugging, all one way.

The past was like a bad dream; the future was all happy holiday as I moved Southwards week by week, easily, lazily, lingering as long as I dared, but always heeding the call!

“Nice? It’s the only thing,” said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

This book is about four Animals - A Badger, A Toad, A Rat, and one other one that I can't think of right now.

This tells about a Toad who is a Bad Toad and he finally realize how bad he has been for a very long time thanks to the Badger who starts talking to him about how bad he has been. He than changes to a Good Toad.

I dearly love this story. It is a really cute adorable story. I would highly recommend this book.
