"#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series--a sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a facade of privilege and prosperity while secrets and indiscretions threaten its very foundation...In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème la crème of high society--just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discreet staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder...No one is above suspicion--especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between his father and him is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle--as well as with his former horse trainer's daughter. Meanwhile, the family's financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself. Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, on the very brink of the family's demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior...or the worst of all the sinners?"-- Provided by publisher.

The second iteration in Ward's "Bourbon Kings" trilogy continues at its intense pace through the depths of dysfunction and betrayal among Kentucky's families of the rich and famous, and it picks up in the wake of some major power shifts in the family and in the industry. The title of this installment derives poetically from the portion of bourbon which evporates into thin air during the aging process.

This is the 2nd book in the Bourbon Kings trilogy and it was excellent. Lots of family drama and different dynamics between the siblings. The 3rd book is on order and I can't wait to read how this story ends.

I think it is Dallas meets The Thorn Birds. I can't wait for the next Book!

Shelving The Angels' Share under the Romance genre doesn't do it justice. This novel is pop fiction at it best. The plots cover business dealings and manipulations, criminal investigation, family saga, a high stake gambling scene, and a variety of romances: perfect happy type, regrets, near misses and longing. I won't call this a romantic novel. I regard this as an ambitious, and unusually good pop culture fiction. Maybe the writing can be more crafty, if you must criticise. Yet nothing can deny that Ms Ward is a brilliant storyteller.

I like everthing J.R. Ward. I like this new series because it is a fun and easy read. I bit along the lines of "Dallas" and it will be fun when they turn this into a series.
