Classic !!!!!!!

Aug 30, 2017

This movie is a classic. Now I have read some reviews where a vidiot. (vidio game idiot who can't handle anything but constant action) doesn't like it because it's too slow!. That's what too many video games do to your brain. You can't read a book or watch a decent film like this one. I wish they'd do another escape film because they are fun and not overly serious. Everyone in this does a good job too. A kick butt film by any standards. It's of it's era and that's the early 80's , it does have action of course just not continual action. like some of today's films. Vidiots need not watch it I suppose for that reason. But if you are not a vidiot. You will enjoy this.

A one of a kind apocalyptic epic that has yet to be rivaled in action and storytelling quality.

This is a 1981 American SF action film co-written, co-scored, and directed by John Carpenter.
Set in a then near-future 1997, the whole Manhattan in New York City has been converted into a maximum security prison.
Ex-soldier Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is given 22 hours to find the US President, who has been captured by prisoners after the crash of Air Force One.
Featuring an atmospherically grimy metropolis, this film is a strange, entertaining jumble of thrilling action and oddball weirdness of B-movie.
Although the poster shows the head of the Statue of Liberty crashing into a New York street, no such incident appears in the film.
They say, this movie has become a cult film.
But I don't see why it is so.
If the head of the Statue of Liberty had crashed into a New York street, I would've deen shockingly impressed by the so-called "cult film."

When I was a kid, this was my favorite movie. Kurt Russell was the coolest. "Escape from New York" and "The Thing" were two good movies Russell made with John Carpenter before Carpenter started making terrible movies. I loved the score by Carpenter. The script was great, with a lot of good lines. "I knew when I found this, I'd be the president"

As much as I love John Carpenter's work and 80's films, I did not appreciate this movie as much as I hoped. I just could not find myself liking any of the characters, especially Kurt Russell's which I found just two-dimensional. The action sequences were mediocre, the setting dark and the story a shrug of the shoulders. The only thing that really stood out for me was the the chandelier-hooded car that the Duke drove. That was funny.

Only a few years earlier, Russell was still playing a high school student in Disney films. All he needed was the right opportunity, which came from Carpenter.

Can anyone say "Cheese"? i thought kurt Russell was better in "Big Trouble, In Little China"..that was cheesy too, but at least he didn't take himself too seriously.

Must be seen. The movie has primitive special effects if any but the story and the character are fresh and interesting. Shows how a good and original movie can be done with very little.

There is a sequel but it is not worth watching.

[cheering erupts]
The Duke: On the hood of my car!
