Add a CommentI have never watched a Carol Burnett show so could not relate to the incidents or people mentioned in this memoir. Yet, I could visualize what the author was talking about and enjoyed reading the book. Perhaps it was a little repetitive.
I think you needed to be there -- funny for people who watched the show a lot, not so much if you never much watched it. Interesting look at the very old history of show business, but one may need to be old enough to know who a lot of the people mentioned were/are.
Lovely trip down memory lane.
LOL on non-confrontational Carol conjured Barbara Stanwyck & Joan Crawford to fire temperamental Harvey for one day & be nice on Monday.
Marveled cast & crew could make & execute weekly show in five days.
Never knew Bob Mackie until I was much older.
Classic Carol at best.
Tha variety show at best.
Do they have this today, wouldn't it be nice.
A true format at best.
I really enjoyed Burnett's memories of the show. My sister and I grew up watching the reruns and I loved reading the behind-the-scenes stories of her guests and about how she ran the show.
Totally agree. Rather silly to put parts of shows in and call it content. Not very interesting and just skimmed through.
Some of it brought back memories, some of it was boring and I skipped through. Basically it was like one large repeat of all the shows and characters.
