This was a fun read and stuff actually starts happening. Rhodes has to bring in a larger kingdom, and we find out that Mytica is really this small island in the grand scheme of things, but evidently the only place in the world that has magic. Hmmm.... Well, whatever gets the story moving I guess. Jonas still sucks as a revolutionary. Following him is like wearing a red shirt on Star Trek. Things moved a bit here and started to make more sense, but there were definitely some of the random changes of heart and unlikely meetings that make this a less than first rate read.

Gathering Darkness was such a good book it surprised me. After the second one, I was a little disappointed with its lack of action but this book went over my expectations. The characters, especially Magnus surprised me and he has finally chosen what he wants rather than following his father. Cleo is still ambitious as she tries to find the Kindred and Jonas is still as determined to take down the King. So many things happened in this book that I'm still trying to process what happened.
There were many plot twists that had me surprised and even by the end of this book I don’t know where the series is going to go. This book was very well written. My favourite one in the series so far although that could change as I can’t wait to read the fourth book, Frozen Tides. Overall, I give this book four stars out of five.
