If you're into offbeat, weird, absurdist movies about strange music groups then you'll most likely enjoy this film- if not then go watch Oliver Stone's movie about the Doors.

This is a very, very strange movie. It's not quite "absurdist" but its definitely in the "bizarro" genre. The music in the film is weirdly catchy and there's a few scenes I've found myself quoting that just stick with you. I'm not even sure who I'd recommend this to. It's not quite a comedy, though some parts are hilarious; it's not quite drama but some parts are heartbreaking. I'd say go into it with an open mind. It certainly gave me a different perspective on Michael Fassbender.

Frank makes music that can never be complete and is never ready for an audience; and because he lives his life entirely inside a papier-mache doll's head, and can never be seen or really known, he exerts an almost mystical power over his followers. When the head comes off... so does the magic.

I've tried to watch this twice now and couldn't finish it. Maybe something is lacking in me. Tedious, annoying, stilly and not funny. And I love Domhnall Gleeson in everything else I've seen him in.

I don't know if I missed something but I didn't find it funny. I got the feeling they were mocking mental illness, which is really offensive, if they were, but I can't be sure. If they weren't its just a totally useless waste of time.

Strange film, but I guess it was worth watching since I sat through the 95-minute duration mostly entertained. One moment delivered a belly-buster laugh that was utterly hilarious. Had they woven the story together a little better at the end I may have been a lot happier with the movie.

A lot of people won't "get" this film. Don't borrow it, without also bringing home a plan B title.
This is the very first movie funded by Britain's Channel 4 that has not had mainstream appeal. I enjoyed it though.
It's also the first movie I've seen that featured mental illness as a core plot point, answering the question "is it contagious?" affirmatively.

Depressing, not a comedy. Unless people struggling with mental disorders is something you find funny.

I was just amazed at how weird but funny this was.

Delightfully odd film about a would-be songwriter (Gleeson) who by odd circumstance becomes the new keyboardist for experimental rock band Soronprfbs. The titular character of the film, and frontman of the band, Frank (Fassbender) is never seen without wearing an oversized fiberglass head, which immediately adds levels of mystery and absurdity to Frank as he attempts to guide his band though his "vision" for creating music. There is an undercurrent of mental illness that permeates the entire film, too, such as a comparison for Frank to Syd Barrett. Overall this film was a lot of fun. Be sure to watch the bonus features!
