A good choice for fans of Ann Curry's "We'll Meet Again." An enemy pilot spares the lives of a U.S. bomber crew, and even years later, the crew continues to ponder "Why?" After decades of searching for answers, the pilots finally meet and share their stories.

An uplifting and fascinating story. An honorable enemy, can it get more interesting than that? For those interested in WWII, this is a great addition to your reading list.

Very enjoyable and informative book. Well written and well researched. great personal depictions of the lives and unimaginable pressures of real people on both sides of air combat in WWII.
Highly recommend.

This is an interesting and yes, uplifting, story about enemy airmen in WWII. While I enjoyed the story overall, I thought the book could have been shorter. There was a lot of detail that really wasn't needed for the story and I got tired and bored reading all the details about the different kinds of planes.

Very interesting. You get a different perspective on the German/American war than what is normally shown in the movies.

I am currently reading books on WW-II and stumbled on this one. A great story and Makos is a great story teller. one of the best books I have read. Highly recommend.

This book really changed the way I thought about World War ll fighter pilots. It kept me interested though out the whole book. And that a German pilot would do that for a American just touched my heart!

Finished reading A HIGHER CALL yesterday. Outstanding book! Maybe my age is catching up to me but I could fully appreciate how when the lives of 2 people cross for only 10 minutes, the ramification can impact, and cause you to question, the years that follow. I also found it interesting reading of the experience of the German pilot through WWII and the impact his religion, sense of honor and non-membership in the Nazi party had upon him. From sleeping in his "grave" to flying the beautiful but unforgiving ME 262, it was a book I couldn't put down. One can't help but finish a book like this and wonder who one's real enemy is, the guy he is fighting under a different flag or the politicians who sent him to war.
Well worth the read.

Fascinating story about WWII pilots - men who had the same enemy even though they fought on opposite sides of the war. Great uplifting story that taught me much about people and aspects of that war I never knew about.

A must read for any WWII history buff. Incredible story of humanity and the incredible drama carried out over the skies of Europe durning WWII. It gives both sides perspectives and brings to light the true feelings of no doubt the majority of the mostly good and honorable German fliers who were reluctantly thrust into this conflict by a Power hungry madman and the "Party" he created to allow his madness to inflict unspeakable suffering for millions. An incredible chain of events leads up to the main focus of the story where two sworn enemies find themselves facing each other alone over the skies of Germany. One is a small thread from eternity, the other only needs sever that remaining thread when a higher call prevails and humanity rises above the call to duty. 5 stars.
