Kay and Arnold are a middle-aged couple who have been married for 30 years and now are sleeping in separate rooms and barely interact in any meaningful loving way. Finally, Kay has had enough and finds a book by Dr. Feld which inspires her to sign them up for the doctor's intense week-long marriage counseling session. What follows is an insightful experience as Dr. Feld manages to help the couple understand how they have emotionally drifted apart and what they can do to reignite their passion.

A big waste of time and money. Not a comedy. Not interesting, possibly embarrassing. However if you are interested in watching sex therapy techniques for old married couples then this is for you!

GREAT movie (sarcasm) on sex-therapy!!! Well, great ...maybe not. But Meryl Streep really saves this awful movie from the brink of disaster. Sure, Tommy Lee Jones barely contributes a thing except as a foil to Meryl, and the dude Steve Carrel, or what's his name, was just a source of comic relief, I suppose, but he WAS funny, often. All in all, it's a boring movie about middle-aged-adults not finding the spark in their Love life anymore, but I watched it and it made me laugh, and I am nowhere near middle-aged. So it's not a TOTAL waste of time, though it can be corny, it's quite sweet at times.

Pretty standard affair about marriage therapy for an aging but loving couple sleeping in separate rooms. Thank goodness for fast forward button during those stretched out moments. A younger couple with more credible relationship issues would be a better watch. Not to be confused with the book Hope Springs by Kim Cash Tate, 2012.

Very dull, if not for Meryl , I would not even watch it to the end. Waste of time.

I got a few chuckles out of this one. Meryl Streep was terrific as the emotionally unfulfilled wife, and Tommy Lee Jones as her miserable husband. I could definitely relate to the mundane rut these two had fallen into over the years, and also how easy it is to take people for granted. Steve Carell was perfect as the deadpan therapist, too.

This would not have been interesting with lesser-known actors.

Not a comedy at all !
But a charming exploration of a human relationship by two veteran actors at the top of their game.

Thank goodness Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones are excellent actors because this movie is on the slow, rather boring side. The producers wanted to show a mariage in trouble which could be saved but it was not that well done.

Dr. Feld: "What about oral sex?" Kay: "I wasn't... I wasn't comfortable with that." Dr. Feld: "Giving or receiving?" Kay: "...Huh?"

"I hate golf. I do. I think it's boring. And watching people talk about it; that's even worse. It's like being married to ESPN or something. And when you eat ranch chips, your breath smells."
