Originally Lulu was created by Lou Reed as a theatrical production in Berlin. After meeting Metallica at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009, both parties decided that they wanted to make more music together. Reed then asked the band to take his piece to the next level. The end result is this two-CD collaboration.

"Junior Dad" was one of my favorite songs released in 2011. it's that good.

I gave this album 5 stars simply because Lou and Metallica attempted to do something different. The result is pretty interesting, however I can see why it didn't appeal to the masses. That being said the song Junior Dad is fantastic.

if you are discovering the music of Lou Reed for the first time IGNORE THIS ALBUM!

Pick anything else he has done.
Better yet - start with the Velvet Underground and work your way through the years.

By the time you've spanned the decades and reach this album you might be able to forgive him just because what proceeded this was so good.

Rest in peace, Lou.

What the eff did I just listen to. If this is intended to be a reincarnation of the opera... listen to Berg's version instead.

Let it be known that this is a collaborative effort between Lou Reed and Metallica. Lou Reed wrote the material, and sings the words, while Metallica provides the musical support and backing vocals. This is a concept album based on a pair of play by the same name written in Germany more than 100 years ago. Concept albums are fine when they work, it was my experience that this didn't work. Lou Reed's vocal style at some points is simply embarrassing to hear. For Metallica and metal fans, stay away from this unless you're open-minded. Marginally recommended for fans of Velvet Underground.

WOW - what happened here? you would thing that Lou Reed & Metallica would be a cool mix, but this was like being at a school talent show hoping it would get better and it never does. The CD disks would be better used as frisbees.

Gets the vote for worst album of 2011. Not a good pairing. Not sure which is more annoying: Lou Reed's lyrics, James Hetfield's vocal cheerleading or Lars Ulrich's heavy handed percussion.
