Some might find it a bit hard to get into but it is ultimately rewarding. The author seems to be directly translating Italian as it was spoken by working class people in 1930s New York, which I loved but it can be jarring amid all the leaping between who controls the narration at any given point. Real bold stuff. Di Donato's style becomes second-nature to the reader after a time, illuminating the ways that language shapes thought.
