Wonderful book with humour & pathos dealing with two sister and their personalities and the twist and turns in their lives - one of the chapter won a Canadian short story award and even though part of the book it can stand alone - I was disappointed when the book finished and realised there wld be no more from this talented author who had died. It has the same quality as the Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society mixed with the harshness of a hard environ

Sisters of Hardscrabble Bay is a beautiful story of two sisters Idella and Avis. It takes us from their tough childhood in Canada up to Maine. Their lives are displayed so beautifully you can almost feel yourself on the journey, spanning 7 decades. Humor, love, pain, sadness, adventure, and always unexpected twists along the way. It will surely go down as one of my favorites. It is so great that it was published after the death of Beverly Jenson. A true gift to the literary world.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite books. I will be thinking about the sisters, and this family for a long, long time. I am so very glad the effort was made to get this book published.

The story is mainly about two sisters. This book is like a short story collection, mostly about the sisters. There are very tragic elements, the first being that their mother dies in childbirth. The stories are tragic and funny. The dialgue is especially funny.
