This film makes you happy to be a human. Everyone looks for a reason to be, this family found theirs and the love spread because of it. Wonderful

The Same Kind of Different As Me has been on my "to read" list for years. I'm not sure why I never made it a priority to get to. It just kept being pushed back by other titles that seemed more exciting at the time. Boy, am I glad that I finally made it to this book! This story will take up shop in your heart, set up shelter, and campout for a long time. It's the kind of book that becomes a part of you.

The true story of Ron and Debbie Hall reaching out to a local homeless shelter hit home for me. Reaching out to the lowest of society has always been intimidating and challenging in my mind. But when they finally get plugged in and meet Denver, the whole book takes a turn for the better.

I can't believe it took me this long to get to this book. Shame on me. It should have been far sooner. 5/5 book - easily.

This true story is a very meaningful book that reflects the individual perspective of each of the authors - regarding life, interpersonal relationships, and those experiencing homelessness.

I saw the movie a month or two before reading the book and found that the book was able to fill in some of the gaps in the movie as well as give us a fuller picture of the life of faith Ron and Deborah lived with their friends and family. Both the book and the movie made me weep despite the fact that when I read the book I knew what was coming. Highly recommended!

A friend recommended this book and I am so glad they did. This is a true story written by a "modern-day slave" and an "international art dealer". The two were brought together by an amazing woman of God and their lives will never be the same. The book had a little bit of everything (from history to healing and grieving to God), but the biggest thing that I took away is that one person CAN make a difference! You can impact a life, you can impact your community and you can impact the world!

I am trying to check out a book club kit - not one title.

Real life story - I did not want to believe that Denver, the African American male character, had such a horrendous upbringing. It's a fascinating look at the power of caring for our fellow man and doing something instead of just talking about doing something to make a real difference to help people who need help. Had a hard time reading the end when the wife gets cancer.

Engaging, thought provoking story that I found hard to put down. It left me wanting to read more about the homeless mans life.

Wonderful non fiction book that takes you into the life of a homeless man.

Although the subject of the book was not what I expected, I found that it addressed an area of American history that few writers have done. The duel subjects of homelessness and the plight of sharecroppers in the south was a novel approach and undoubtely new to many readers.

Brief Review: In alternating chapters, it talks about a black man's struggles growing up in the south and a middle-class white man living in Texas earning money as an art dealer. Then it ties in a religious, powerful woman who changes their lives.
