When an African-American lawyer, infamous for his lawsuits alleging racism by LAPD police officers, is murdered on the eve of a sensational trial, Harry Bosch, facing a suspect list including half the department, is assigned the case. 250,000 first printing. Tour.

At the foot of Angels Flight, an inclined railway in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, a lawyer is found murdered on the eve of a landmark trial. Howard Elias's lawsuits charging the LAPD with racism and brutality made him a celebrity - even as his success earned him the hatred of nearly every police officer in the city. When Harry Bosch is put in charge of the team investigating Elias's murder he knows that his colleagues are likely to be his chief suspects. He also knows that the city's smoldering racial tensions could ignite if he missteps.
As he works night and day in the glare of a major media event, Bosch struggles with a more personally urgent mystery: trying to find out whether his wife's disappearance means she has left him for good or fallen deeper into a dangerous addiction. On streets filled with angry mobs, amid burning buildings and under fire from rooftop snipers, Bosch must find the one answer that will make sense of the case's strangely unconnected pieces - exposing himself to grave danger in the hope of saving his job, his marriage, and his city.

Highly readable as usual and Connelly comes dangerously close to reality in getting to the systemic racism in the LAPD. I wonder though if Connelly comes too close to blurring moral lines by getting Bosch to cross one.

What is the title of Harry Bosch novel where his daughter gets kidnapped in Hong Kong

Wow! Great story with its twists and turns as Bosch slowly unravels the mystery behind the murder of a lawyer hated by the LAPD. Connelly's Bosch is unlike Lee Child's Jack Reacher. Both operate from a righteous True North. But Bosch is more human, more sympathetic. No fisticuffs or gunfights here. Even so, the story is gripping and a real page turner. Bravo!

This is probably my favourite of Michael Connelly's wonderful Bosch novels... a recent discovery in the paperback display, not available as a hardcover in the stacks. I enjoyed the very intricate and well laid-out plot, especially when Connelly writes about the ever ongoing dance between South LA and the LAPD. Now I'm curious to find out how Bosch met Eleanor... so it's back to the pb display!

A great introduction to Michael Connelly and his hardboiled, truth-seeking, rule-breaking detective, Harry Bosch. Bosch is a member of Hollywood's crime unit but gets called in to Los Angeles to investigate the murder of a lawyer who makes his living suing the LAPD for discrimination and brutality. Not only is Bosch potentially hunting one of his own, but he's partnered with his rival from Internal Affairs division, there to handle what is a politically and racially charged case. On top of this, Bosch's wife has disappeared and may have relapsed into a black hole of gambling addiction. Bosch hunts for the killer through the twisted, corrupt LA political scene, and Connelly - himself a former journalist and with a journalist's eye for detail and character - piles on the surprises and memorable characters. Readers will not be disappointed.

Angels Flight ---- by Michael Connelly c - 1999 / 2011- MM ED. (Bosch Novel) ---- Very Good read and More ---- I somehow was not able to finish this story before. A major move to earn a living?? This tale links into other works about Bosch's Efforts as Detective and caring family man. Who gets fuddle fingered and clumsy in relationships. ---- Enjoy! ---- RichardPaul (finished 9-16-2012)

Probably one of Conelly's finest novels, and it's usually the one I use to get patrons hooked on him. (This and "Lincoln Lawyer".)
